The “Missing Million” Diabetic Epidemic

With official figures of around 2.5 million diabetics in the UK and ‘the missing million‘ – (that’s the estimated number of undiagnosed diabetics out there in the UK), there really needs to be a concerted effort to address this health issue and prevent a crisis in the making, a crisis caused primarily by bad diets.

It may be unthinkable, but this situation could even be far worse. 90% of adults with diabetes have type 2 diabetes (the main cause being obesity)and the number of people who have type 2 diabetes, has TREBLED in the last 30 years. By 2030 4.6 million people are expected to have diabetes.

Modern sedentary lifestyles and junk food are feeding this epidemic – unless urgent action is taken to prevent the growth of the obesity and diabetes epidemics – the prospective costs, both in terms of the human suffering and the money and resources required to deal with it are incalculable.

Type-2 diabetes is irrevocably linked to lifestyle and related to what you eat, so it is essential that you eat a healthy diet and do some exercise, no matter how small an amount. Eat plenty of vegetables and fruit and try to take a walk a couple of times a week.
