stay motivated to exerciseStaying motivated to exercise regularly is essential if you want to maintain a fitness level that will really benefit your heath. However, there’s no denying it can be difficult. Here are some tips that may help you stick to your exercise regime.

Set Goals

Setting realistic goals is one of the best ways to stay motivated to exercise. If your goals are too ambitious it’s easy to become frustrated and give up, but if you have no goals at all you won’t push yourself to really improve your fitness. Focus on manageable, short-term aims that will help you build up to any long-term goals you have. The satisfaction you’ll feel as you achieve those aims will give you the encouragement you need to stick with your exercise regime.

Reward Yourself

If the sense of achievement that comes with meeting your goals isn’t enough, plan to reward yourself with something you’ll enjoy. This may mean buying yourself something nice when you meet a certain goal, or treating yourself at the end of each month if you’ve done as much exercise as you set out to do.

Keep an Exercise Diary

Your progress will feel all the more substantial if there’s a record of it on paper. After each workout, write about what you did, how long you did it for and how it made you feel. Make a note of any goals you met and over time, your diary will show you just how much you’ve achieved and how capable you are of incorporating a healthy amount of physical activity into your life.

Find an Exercise Partner

It’s easier to forgo plans to exercise alone than it is to skip a workout with someone else. Committing to exercising with a partner allows you to motivate one another and also makes it more fun.

A repetitive workout routine can begin to feel dull and tedious, and this can certainly leave you feeling demotivated. You may find exercise more enjoyable if you engage in a variety of physical activities. Try different things regularly – there are many forms of exercise, and the more you try, the more likely you are to find one you enjoy and actually want to keep doing. Even simply exercising in a different location than usual can help to take away some of the monotony.

Work Out to Music

It’s amazing what a difference listening to music while you work out can make. Making a playlist of your favourite songs and listening to them as you exercise will make it feel less dull! Research has shown that listening to upbeat music while you exercise can even increase the length and intensity of your workout.
